The Palestinian Authority (PA) security apparatus on Tuesday prevented citizens from participating in a sit-in outside the cabinet headquarters in Ramallah city in solidarity with Gaza employees whose salaries were recently slashed by the government.
During the morning hours today a large number of police and security forces spread around the cabinet headquarters where barriers were erected.
The PA security forces also closed all nearby roads leading to the building in which ministers convened for a regular cabinet meeting.
The intended sit-in was called for by many civil society and human rights organizations and was supposed to start before noon.
The organizers said the event was aimed at demanding the government to backtrack on its recent decision to cut salaries of Gaza employees.
