Reconstruction of Gaza’s infrastructure in progress says minister

Friday 6-October-2017

Efforts have been underway to improve infrastructure and vital facilities in the blockaded Gaza Strip Minister of Local Government Hussein al-Araj told PIC.

Speaking with PIC al-Araj said his ministry discussed with local mayors possible ways to raise funds so as to reconstruct the infrastructure and road network in the enclave.

Al-Araj said Gaza’s municipalities should work on paving the internal roads adding that projects worth 50 million shekels have been carried out over recent years to that very end.

He vowed that his ministry will keep up serious work to raise funds for Gaza projects and hand over loans to Gaza’s municipal authorities so as to improve internal infrastructure.

Al-Araj attributed the sea pollution and the suspension of water purification to the lack of fuel and natural energy resources adding that the purification plant needs two megawatts to be reactivated.

Al-Araj also said that efforts have been under full swing to install solar energy networks and that initiatives have been in progress to establish energy plants in an area covering over 100 dunums.
