Refugees in Gaza hand Bo Schack letter of demands

Thursday 27-July-2017

A delegation of the heads of refugees’ popular committees in Gaza Strip’s refugee camps handed on Thursday a letter of demands to Bo Schack Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza in his office in the city.

The letter asked UNRWA to supply the refugee camps in Gaza with electricity as what happened in Lebanon. They also called on the United Nations to help in facilitating the travel of the sick people and to offer job opportunities for the refugees.

The refugees’ letter pointed to the shortage of water and power cut-offs that Gaza Strip has been suffering from in addition to the increasing unemployment rate that exceeded 78%. It also referred to other issues including the polluted sea shores due to sewage water. The closed crossings in the blockaded coastal enclave have deprived hundreds of sick people in the refugee camps of their right to travel for treatment the letter pointed out.

For his part the chairman of the popular committees of refugees in Gaza Muin Abu Okel acquainted Bo Schack with refugees’ poor living conditions due to the continuous power cut-offs.

Bo Schack expressed his sorrow for the persistent crisis and promised to exert efforts in order to come up with a solution to the issue.
