Renewed clashes between local youths and IOF in Beita town

Tuesday 15-June-2021

A renewed round of violent clashes broke out on Monday night between dozens of Palestinian youths and the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) near Mount Sobeih in Beita town south of Nablus.

According to local sources the IOF fired rubber bullets and volleys of tear gas and stun grenades at the young men.

Many olive trees in the area caught fire as a result of the intensive shooting of tear gas and stun grenades during the events.

Meanwhile scores of Jewish settlers aboard buses flocked to Mount Sobeih under military protection at the pretext of performing rituals and holding celebrations.

For several weeks local youths from Beita town and other areas of Nablus started to organize nightly protest events as a form of popular resistance against the Israeli occupation and its settlers who set up an outpost on Mount Sobeih.

During the events the young men torch tires use loudspeakers to play religious slogans national songs and sirens and flash laser beams and flashlights at the settlers on the mount.

Organizers say the night rallies are aimed at creating confusion among the settlers and forcing them to leave the area.
