Report: PA violations against journalists escalated

Wednesday 19-October-2016

The Arab Organization for Human Rights in UK (AOHR UK) revealed Wednesday that PA security forces have escalated their violations against freedom of expression.

The London-based organization affirmed that PA security forces arrested the journalist Nidal Natsheh 29 on Oct. 13 from his family home in al-Khalil without a warrant.

Family sources affirmed to the AOHR that PA Preventive Security Forces brutally stormed their house on Oct. 13 looking for Nidal who was not at home at that time.

“They forced us to call him to hand himself in” the family said.

The family pointed out that Nidal’s laptop was also confiscated during the raid.

After three days of his arrest a PA court extended the detention of Nidal for 48 hours for criticizing the government’s policy.

His arrest was once again extended last Tuesday for four days.

The AOHR UK said that Palestinian journalists have been routinely targeted by PA security forces pointing out that two journalists were summoned for investigation on 17 and 18 October.

The rights group called on PA government to stop the security forces’ violations against Palestinian journalists.

The organisation also called for releasing all imprisoned journalists.
