The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have notably and systematically escalated their arrest campaigns against Palestinian women and girls over the past month Palestine Center for Prisoners’ Studies revealed.
Spokesman for the center Riyadh al-Ashqar affirmed in a statement on Tuesday that 22 Palestinian women were detained during February including two minors and an injured young woman.
Each week had witnessed the arrest of five women he pointed out.
The 28-year-old young woman Manar Mujahed was among the arrested women. She was detained after being shot and injured by Israeli gunfire near Qalandia military checkpoint for allegedly possessing a knife.
Three university students were also among the reported arrests for participating in a non-violent march near Ofer prison.
Two other minors were arrested over the past month including the 12-year-old girl Hadil Ragby after being summoned for investigation while Israa Jaber 17 was rounded up near the Ibrahimi Mosque for having a knife in her possession.
Member of Fatah’s Revolutionary Council Salwa Hdaib was also detained over the past month while trying to cross Hazma military checkpoint along with her son.
During February Israeli courts issued harsh sentences against Palestinian female prisoners including 16-year-old Amal Qubaha who was sentenced to one-and-a-half year imprisonment plus a fine of 20000 shekels.
Dalal Abu Hawa was also sentenced to 12 months plus a fine of 10000 shekels.
The center pointed out that the female injured prisoner Jihan Hashima who is currently held in Ramla prison clinic suffers health problems and is unable to move.
Hashima a mother of three children was arrested in Dec. 2016 after being shot and injured in her foot.
