Russia has condemned US secretary of state Michael Pompeo’s visit to an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank.
Speaking at a news conference in Moscow spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry Maria Zakharova said the visit was an attempt by the US administration to legitimize illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Zakharova stressed that such actions violate the UN Security Council resolutions accusing Washington of seeking to impose new faits accomplis on the ground.
The spokeswoman described the US administration’s actions in Palestine as “obstructive to the efforts to restart the negotiation process that is aimed at establishing a just lasting and comprehensive peace.”
