GAZA (PIC)– PA premier Ismael Haneyya has met with Russian ambassador to the PA Alexi Bukodiev at his office in Gaza city Thursday in another bolstering step for his newly formed unity government.
Haneyya’s meeting with the Russian diplomat comes few days after he met with Norwegian foreign affairs under-secretary Raymon Johanson restoring normal ties between Norway and the PA government.
The Israeli occupation government nixed the meeting and refused to receive Johanson warning that it will boycott any diplomat meeting with PA government officials.
The Russian envoy handed a letter from his country’s foreign minister Serge Lavrov pertaining to the political situation in the region and explaining Russian efforts to help lift the economic sanctions on the Palestinian people.
Haneyya for his part hailed the visit and appreciated the “supportive” Russian stands towards the Palestinian question as well as Russian efforts to help break the blockade.
A number of EU countries including France Itali Norway Sweden and Germany among other countries hailed the formation of the PA unity government expressing readiness to deal with it.
In a separate occasion the premier received a delegation from the Azhar University in Egypt that congratulated him for forming the first PA unity government and winning the confidence of the Palestinian people.
