The Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem (SIC) demanded Israeli authorities to reopen Bab al-Rahma mosque which is a two-story great prayer hall located within al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem. The Council described the court’s closure decision as null and void since it was issued by an incompetent court.
In a press statement on Saturday the SIC affirmed that al-Aqsa Mosque should not be subjected to political decisions or courts’ rulings.
The SIC rejected Jerusalem Municipality’s claim that the plazas of al-Aqsa Mosque are public squares. It held the Israeli government responsible for desecrating al-Aqsa Mosque and any tension that might result.
