Al-Aqsa Mosque’s preacher Sheikh Ekrima Sabri on Friday stressed that selling Palestinian property to the Israelis or facilitating the transfer of its ownership is considered an act of treason based on a fatwa issued by Palestinian scholars in 1935.
Sabri called for a ban to be imposed on selling property especially in Jerusalem to the Israelis and warned that any Palestinian involved in such transactions would be accused of high treason.
In another context Sabri touched on the tunnels being dug by extremist Jewish groups in Silwan town and under al-Aqsa Mosque.
He said that the Israeli authorities are seeking to establish a national park in the area stressing that al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings are considered a Waqf (endowment) land and that what these Jewish groups are doing is a blatant aggression aimed at altering Jerusalem’s character.
Thousands of Palestinians performed Friday prayer at al-Aqsa Mosque amid tightened Israeli restrictions.
