Sabri warns of plans to change status quo at al-Aqsa

Wednesday 26-October-2016

Head of the Islamic Supreme Commission in Occupied Jerusalem Sheikh Ikrema Sabri warned Wednesday of Israel’s continued violations against al-Aqsa Mosque.

Speaking to Quds Press Sheikh Sabri pointed out that Netanyahu’s right-wing government is planning to change the status quo at the Mosque.

Israeli police have recently carried out unprecedented arrests against Palestinian worshipers in order to pave the way for settlers’ massive break-ins into the holy shrine during Jewish holidays he underlined.

He strongly condemned the Israeli restrictions on Palestinians’ access into the Mosque saying that such measures would never succeed to give any rights to Jews in the holy Islamic compound.

Haaretz Hebrew newspaper has earlier revealed that Israeli police had allowed settlers to perform “silent” Talmudic rituals in the compound.

The newspaper said that a record number of Jews broke into al-Aqsa during the Jewish three-week holiday season from October 3 to October 25.

Over 3000 Jews stormed the holy site during October including a group of soldiers the paper added.

Haaretz noted that 2016 has witnessed unprecedented settler break-ins as over 11000 settlers broke into the holy shrine since the beginning of the year.

Right-wing Israeli organizations called for intensifying settler break-ins into al-Aqsa especially during Jewish holidays although the UNESCO had declared it a purely Islamic site.
