Saudi Arabia has completed a $50 million donation to the UNRWA the agency’s leader said on Friday.
UNRWA’s Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl during his visit to Saudi Arabia on 28 November signed an agreement with Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in support of UNRWA’s health education and social services in 2018.
The UNRWA said in a statement released on Friday “This very generous and crucial $50 million contribution has now been transferred to UNRWA confirming the unprecedented mobilization of support by donors and partners worldwide this year to help UNRWA to overcome its worst financial crisis ever.”
“We are extremely grateful for the generous support consistently provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in recent years. The exemplary 2018 donation of $50 million to UNRWA’s core services is a new milestone in our important cooperation” Krähenbühl added.
The agency said the donation was the “fulfillment of the pledge” made by King Salman in April and brought Saudi Arabia’s total contribution for the year to $160 million.
