Schack: The problems in Gaza due to Israeli siege

Tuesday 14-February-2017

Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza Bo Schack said that the Gaza Strip suffers from Israeli siege not shortage of food and hoped a political solution would be reached soon in order to alleviate the enclave’s crises.

Schack said on Tuesday in an event organized by Palestinian media forum in Gaza that UNRWA serves over 950000 refugees in Gaza and expected a remarkable increase in the number of UNRWA’s school students.

He wished UNRWA’s services would be able to continue and hoped that no new deduction of services would be pursued due to financial issues.

UNRWA gives priority in offering aid to refugees whose homes were damaged in the Israeli latest offensive on Gaza and reside in rented apartments. 1300 housing units have been constructed since the start 2016 Schack pointed out describing such an accomplishment as a “big progress”.
