Scores of Palestinian youths continue to keep guard over Mount Orma

Saturday 14-March-2020

More than a few days have passed since dozens of Palestinian young men in southern Nablus started to camp and hold a vigil on Mount Orma to guard it against recent repeated attempts by Jewish settlers to take it over with the help of the Israeli occupation forces.

Despite the cold weather on the mountainous site — which is about 800 meters above sea level — the young guards mostly from towns and villages in southern Nablus have pitched their tents around a pole carrying a Palestinian flag to confirm their adherence to their land and their keenness on defending this strategically important site against Judaization attempts.

Last Wednesday 15-year-old Mohamed Hamayel from the nearby town of Beita was shot dead and dozens of local citizens rallying on the mount suffered different injuries when the IOF stormed the area and embarked on firing rubber and live bullets and tear gas canisters on them.

The local residents of Beita town in particular have been facing for years an Israeli plan to annex Mount Orma an ancient historic site to the illegal settlement of Itamar and frustrated frequent attempts by settlers to take it over and claim it as a Jewish site.
