Settlers burn benches try to cut electricity poles

Sunday 11-July-2021

Jewish settlers set fire to benches in agricultural lands in Battir town in western Bethlehem at dawn Sunday while others attempted to cut the electricity poles in Qaryut village in Nablus last night.

Omar al-Qaisi an activist in the file of Resisting the Wall and Settlements in Battir said that a number of settlers stormed on Sunday the Haraiq area located between al-Makhrour lands in Beit Jala and Battir.

Settlers set fire to benches and other supplies that were in the area. This is the second attack in a week.

Qaisi pointed out that there is an escalation of settlers’ attacks under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in this area who bulldoze lands and erect mobile homes with the aim of seizing the area to establish a settlement outpost.

On Saturday night local sources reported that the settlers tried to cut the electricity poles that supply electricity to Khirbet Sarra in Qaryut village Nablus.

The sources underlined that there is a danger threatening the electricity network in the area as the power pylons might fall at any moment.

The IOF has been recently escalating harassment of residents. The IOF handed the residents demolition notices closed ancient caves and prevented them from using two old water wells according to the sources.
