Settlers start building outpost in Umm Kharrouba

Friday 13-November-2020

Jewish settlers started building a new settlement outpost and pitching tents in the Umm Kharrouba area in the northern Jordan Valley on Friday.

Aref Daraghmeh a human rights activist stated that Jewish settlers have set up tents in the Umm Kharrouba area west of Khirbet al-Suwaida in the northern Jordan Valley. These settlers have been always present in this area lately along with their livestock he added.

Since 1967 and the successive occupation governments without exception have considered the Jordan Valley as one of the vital areas for Israeli security and economy.

Last month the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) seized more than 11 thousand dunums in the Palestinian valleys. Most of these lands are pastoral lands and they were seized in favor of the so-called nature reserves.

Since occupying the West Bank Israel has sought to annex and Judaize the Palestinian Jordan Valley which is located on an enormous reservoir of water.

The Jordan Valley is the food basket of Palestine and it is the most affected area by the annexation project which envisages appropriating thousands of dunums of agricultural land.

Several areas in the West Bank especially in the Jordan Valley and villages adjacent to the settlements are under constant attack by settlers with the aim of confiscating more lands building settlement roads and displacing the Palestinian inhabitants.

Daraghmeh described the year 2020 as the peak year for enhancing the building plans in Israeli settlements especially the isolated ones.
