A group of Jewish settlers at dawn Thursday burned two Palestinian cars and smashed the windows of another in Turmus Ayya town northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Turmus Ayya mayor Wadie Abu Awwad reported that settlers escorted by soldiers infiltrated the outskirts of the town setting fire to two cars and damaging windows of another one.
Abu Awwad said that Israeli soldiers stormed the eastern area of the town later and confiscated all the cars that had been sabotaged in order to hide and spoil the evidence.
Hijaz Abu Awwad one of the cars’ owners witnessed what happened and said that the settlers torched the two cars in the presence of Israeli soldiers and security guards.
He also said that he suffered injuries when settlers hurled stones at the windows of his car while he was inside it.
He affirmed that local residents tried to stop the settlers from advancing to burn the cars but soldiers attacked them with tear gas and helped the settlers to reach the cars to set them alight.
