Several Gazans injured in renewed night protest on border

Monday 30-August-2021

Several Palestinian protesters suffered injuries last night during renewed anti-siege clashes with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) near the border fence in the east of Gaza City.

A reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) said that hundreds of young men rallied in Abu Safiya area in the east of Jabalia area carrying flags and torches in protest at the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

The young men also torched tires and fired firecrackers towards the border fence.

The IOF in turn fired flares over the area and used quadcopters to shower the protesters with tear gas canisters.

According to the health ministry in Gaza 18 protesters suffered injuries during the events last night with one of them wounded moderately by live ammunition.

The others are said to have been lightly hurt from rubber bullets or stun and tear gas grenades.

Tension escalated in the Gaza Strip in recent weeks as the Israeli occupation government continues to impose tight restrictions on the coastal enclave.

The Israeli government says it will not allow the entry of construction materials into Gaza unless the Hamas Movement frees Israeli soldiers held by its armed wing. Hamas for its part rejects such blackmail and insists on a prisoner swap deal.
