Several settlers injured in late-night Jerusalem shooting

Sunday 14-August-2022

At least nine Jewish settlers were injured at dawn Sunday in a Palestinian shooting operation in the Old City of Occupied Jerusalem.

One Palestinian reportedly opened fire at a bus and then at cars in a parking lot near the Aqsa Mosque’s western wall at 01:24 a.m. local time according to the Hebrew media.

Israeli medical sources said ambulance crews provided on-site medical assistance for several Israelis before evacuating them to hospitals describing injuries of three as critical and another as serious.

Soon after the incident the Israeli occupation police launched an hours-long manhunt for the gunman who fled the scene and later they announced the arrest of some Palestinians including the shooter following raids on many Palestinian homes in the holy city.

During their search operation the police closed off the Old City blocking both entry and exit into the area and to the western wall plaza. Police helicopters also participated in the search which continued for around six hours.

The Maariv newspaper website identified the shooter as Amir Sidawi a 28-year-old from the holy city.

The Palestinian resistance factions blessed the shooting operation as “a natural response to Israel’s ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people.”
