Mother of Aaron Shaul the Israeli soldier who was captured in the Gaza Strip at the hands of the Qassam Brigades sent a message on her son’s 23rd birthday to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying “If you abandon Golani Brigade soldiers they will abandon you too.”
Zehava Shaul said in an interview with the Israeli army’s radio on Tuesday that this is the third birthday her son spends away from her pointing out that time doesn’t heal pains and that the family’s life has turned into hell since her son was captured in Gaza.
She added that the family’s greatest concern lies in the uncertainty about her son’s fate since they know he was captured alive.
“I think about him every day. When I eat I ask myself: Does he eat? When I go to sleep I ask myself: Can he sleep? We don’t know anything about Shaul’s condition. Nobody knows. And whoever claims to know is a liar.”
She talked about her attempts to dissuade her son from enrolling in the ranks of the Golani Brigade and how he promised her not to expose himself to danger. She said that her son wasn’t supposed to enter Gaza but he told his commander that he would join them in case they entered there.
At the end of the interview Zehava delivered a strongly-worded message to Netanyahu saying “You only know how to send our sons to a war that lasted for 51 days which is longer than the Yom Kippur War (1973 October War). You sent my son to Gaza and you are responsible for getting him out of there by whatever means. If you abandon Golani Brigade soldiers they will abandon you too.”
The Qassam Brigades the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announced on 20th July 2014 capturing the Israeli soldier Aaron Shaul in an operation in the east of al-Tuffah neighborhood to the east of Gaza City during the Israeli ground assault while the Israeli army announced then his murder.
