RAMALLAH (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority on Tuesday released Sheikh Hussein Abu Kuwaik one of the Hamas leaders in El-Bireh city after five years of imprisonment that followed the IOF assassination of his family.
Abu Kuwaik was kidnapped on 27/7/2002 shortly after the IOF murdered his wife Bushra his son Mohammed 8 and his daughters Bara’ 14 and Aziza 17 in an artillery shelling of their car on 4/3/2002.
The IOA charged Abu Kuwaik 50 with being a leading member of the Hamas Movement and with representing it in various platforms.
He was subjected to intensive questioning at the Maskobeh detention center in occupied Jerusalem for 58 days in which he was held in total isolation. He was then sentenced to 8 months administrative detention without trial or charge and finally he was sentenced to 5 years in addition to a two-year suspended sentence.
Abu Kuwaik said after his release that he had doubts over his release even after completion of his sentence.
He asked the Palestinian leadership to accord greater attention to the question of prisoners in occupation jails especially the sick ones adding that tens of them were held in Ramle prison hospital in isolation rooms. He warned that their lives were in danger in view of the absence of proper treatment.
The ex-prisoner also said that the Palestinians should insist on an honorable prisoners’ swap deal that would ensure the release of the biggest possible number of prisoners serving high sentences children and women in addition to the patients.
