Sheikh Sabri condemns settlement expansion

Wednesday 25-January-2017

Sheikh Ekrema Sabri head of the Higher Islamic Authority in Occupied Jerusalem condemned on Wednesday the Israeli settlement expansion which increased since the election of the new US president Donald Trump.

Sheikh Sabri told the PIC that the settlement activity has recently increased in a flagrant manner which indicates that the Israeli authorities are encouraged by the new US administration.

He further pointed out that Trump had hosted heads of Israeli settlements councils to participate in his inauguration ceremony.

He warned that the two-state solution is no more achievable since the Israeli settlement “cancerous expansion” blocks the establishment of a viable Palestinian State. He called on the Palestinian Authority to reconsider the agreements previously signed with Israel.

Sheikh Sabri added however that former US presidents had given the same promise but backtracked due to its expected repercussions.

Shifting to another issue the Sheikh deplored the house demolitions conducted in the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories which falls in line with an Israeli displacement policy pursued against the Palestinians there.

Sheikh Sabri opined that Palestinians are getting stronger and their number is getting larger in 1948 occupied Palestine therefore the Israeli authorities seek to limit their power by all means.
