Sheikh Sabri urges Mosque Muezzins to ignore Israeli ban

Thursday 9-March-2017

Sheikh Ikrima Sabri head of the higher Islamic Council in Occupied Jerusalem has called on Mosque Muezzins in the occupied Palestinian territories not to comply with the Israeli ban to be imposed on reciting the Fajr Adhan (dawn call to prayer).

“The occupation authorities had backtracked (on the Adhan ban) temporarily after it had faced storms of opposition to its Adhan ban bill and now it has brought it forward again in a circumventive and twisting manner as a law banning Adhan from 11 o’clock at night to seven o’clock in the morning and they mean the Fajr Adhan in particular with that” Sheikh Sabri stated in press remarks to Quds Press on Thursday.

He noted that the new law if enacted would not be confined to the Fajr Adhan but it will affect overnight and morning worship activities during the holy month of Ramadan and the following holidays of Fitr and Adha.

He urged all Mosque Muezzins to continue reciting Adhan through loudspeakers regardless of any measure to be taken against them.
