Sheikh Salah to stand trial for defending the Aqsa

Monday 12-February-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– Israeli police informed Sheikh Raed Salah the leader of the Islamic Movement in the 1948 areas that he should attend a court hearing on Wednesday to face charges of “incitement”.

The IOA decided that Sheikh Salah should stand trial for inciting against Israel and also decided to bar him from approaching the holy Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem for 60 more days. The IOA had ordered him not to come near to the holy site for ten days last week after detaining him for a few hours.

Israeli premier Ehud Olmert had publicly incited against Sheikh Salah saying that the Sheikh was acting according to his vision that “rejects the state of Israel as a Jewish democratic state” and added that the “concerned authorities” would act against the Sheikh if he did not abide by the law.

Sheikh Salah affirmed his insistence on defending the Aqsa Mosque in the light of Israeli excavations even if it led to his imprisonment.

The IOA started last Tuesday in destroying the historical path leading to the Magharba gate of the Aqsa Mosque.
