Silwan playing field sustains land collapse due to Israeli excavations

Sunday 3-March-2019

A playing field in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood of Silwan district south of the Aqsa Mosque sustained considerable land collapse and wall cracks on Saturday after recent rains unveiled more Israeli tunnels beneath Palestinian homes and buildings in the area.

Spokesman for the Silwan land defense committee Fakhri Abu Diyab reported that the ground and walls of the playing field in Wadi Hilweh sustained cave-ins and fissures after rainwater exposed more Israeli diggings under the area.

According to Abu Diyab most of the houses in the area has become suspended in the air and threatened with collapse after soil and rocks were withdrawn from under their foundations in order to build tunnels.

He pointed to the presence of widespread fractures in the walls of many houses as a result of Israeli underground diggings and tunnels.

With no regard for the lives of local residents the Israeli occupation authority have been carrying out continuous excavations in Silwan for many years which causes collapses and fractures to Palestinian houses and streets of the neighborhood.
