Dozens of Jerusalemites performed Friday prayer in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood sit-in tent in Silwan town south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque where 86 homes are threatened with demolition.
After the prayer the participants staged a sit-in in the tent condemning the demolition of the houses of the neighborhood and in solidarity with its residents against the occupation’s displacement plans.
Silwan citizens denounced the escalation of house demolitions by the Israeli occupation authorities and forcing the people to self-demolish them under false pretexts calling on the world community to work on halting the occupation decisions aimed at displacing them and demolishing their homes.
The Jerusalemite activist Zuhair al-Rajabi stressed that praying in the tent reflects the residents’ steadfastness in all the neighborhoods of Silwan.
Batn al-Hawa neighborhood is an extension of the Mount of Olives and is located in the eastern corner of Occupied Jerusalem. It is one of the neighborhoods of Silwan where the Israeli occupation seized more than 73 thousand dunums of its lands for establishing Jewish-only settlements.
