Civil and official institutions concerned with supporting Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails handed on Thursday a protest memo to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) demanding exerting pressure on Israel in order to end solitary confinement of Palestinian prisoners.
This came in a sit-in before the ICRC headquarters in Jenin in solidarity with two isolated captives: Anas Jaradat who is serving 35 life sentences and suffers from serious health conditions as well as detainee Muammar al-Sabbah who is sentenced to 23 years.
Ragheb Abu Diyak coordinator of the popular committee for the release of prisoners in Jenin urged the international community to pressure Israel in order to put to an end to the solitary confinement measure.
Head of Palestinian Prisoner Society in Jenin Muntaser Sammour said that the Israeli policy of solitary confinement is one of the toughest punitive policies pursued by Israeli prison authorities against Palestinian detainees with no justification.
For their parts the mothers of both captives expressed concern over the fate of their sons and called on the concerned institutions to work on ending the Israeli illegal solitary confinement punishment.
