Prisoners and Ex-prisoners Association staged on Thursday a sit-in before the headquarters of the High Commissioner in Gaza city. The event was organized in solidarity with the Palestinian ex-detainee Abdul Karim Abu Habel who has been held captive in Austrian jails for over eight months with no reasons released.
The family of captive Abu Habel revealed that their son traveled to Austria for touristic purposes but they were shocked when they heard about the news of his arrest.
They appealed to international institutions as well as to the Palestinian Authority (PA) in order to intervene for releasing their son before Austrian authorities sentence him on March 02. The family warned the Austrian authorities about turning in their son to Israel.
The ex-detainee Mohammad al-Dirawi representative of the Association asked the PA to shoulder responsibility for the release of Abu Habel for no conditions and called for supporting him.
Himayah Center for Human Rights affirmed that captive Abu Habel did not commit any legal offense worth of detention. He was arbitrarily arrested in violation of international norms and laws it stated.
