Sit-in in solidarity with captive Qiq in Gaza

Tuesday 21-February-2017

The Palestinian Media Forum along with Waed association for prisoners organized on Tuesday a sit-in in solidarity with the detained Palestinian journalist Mohammad al-Qiq who has been on hunger strike for the sixteenth day in a row in protest at his illegal administrative detention in Israeli jails.

Head of Media Forum Imad al-Efrenji called on Arab and international media as well as international media unions to back up the Palestinian journalists detained in Israeli jails. He denounced the absence of the Palestinian Question in media headlines and newscasts.

Efrenji asked the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah to immediately release journalist Sami al-Sa’ee and to apologize for transferring him to Jericho jail despite the issuance of a court order stipulating his release.

For his part executive manager of Waed association Abdullah Qandil said that captive Qiq goes on hunger strike in order to highlight the suffering of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.

He also slammed the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) for turning a blind eye to the complaints of prisoners’ families about strip searches they are subjected to by Israeli forces during weekly visits.
