Tuesday 15-March-2011

RAMALLAH (PIC)– The Israeli intelligence renewed for the 17th time the solitary confinement of Hamas-affiliated prisoner Abdullah Al-Barghouthi who is serving 67 life prison sentences in Ramon isolation jail.

Director of Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies and human rights Fouad Al-Khafsh said that prisoner Barghouthi was locked up in isolation cell in March 2003 and since then the Israeli intelligence has been extending his solitary confinement.

His lawyer Mohamed Abdeen told Ahrar center that Barghouthi appeared in high spirits during the hearing and not bothered by the extension of his isolation.

In a separate incident the Israeli administration of Ramon prison punished prisoner Abbas Assayed who has been on hunger strike for six consecutive days by cutting off electricity to his cell depriving him of visits and not providing him with sugar and salt.

Lawyer Abdeen said that prisoners Abdullah Al-Barghouthi and Mutaz Hijazi refused to take their usual meals in solidarity with Assayed and consequently both of them were punished by transferring them to gloomy solitary cells provided with no basic utilities except two bottles one for drinking and another for urinating.
