Spanish municipality adopts resolution to join BDS

A Spanish municipality adopted on Friday a resolution to support Palestine and join the anti-racism and anti-apartheid movement BDS.

The resolution states joining the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) and accordingly the municipality is committed not to establish any kind of contact with any Israeli organization until Israel meets three conditions WAFA agency reported.

The conditions include recognizing the Palestinian people’s right of self-determination ending the occupation and dismantling the apartheid wall. The conditions fall in line with the UN Security Council Resolution No. 242 and the International Court of Justice Declaration of 9th July 2004.

The municipality also demanded recognizing the rights of the Palestinian citizens living in the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories and respecting the Palestinian refugees’ right of return as set forth in the UN General Assembly Resolution No. 194.

It pointed out that the boycott measures will not be implemented against the Israeli institutions companies and organizations that recognize the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

No commercial academic cultural political or sports agreement will be held with the Spanish international or national institutions that benefit financially economically or politically from the violations of human rights in the Palestinian territories the resolution stipulates.

The municipality will also ask the local parliament of Cantabria and all institutions in the region as well as the Spanish government to join this international boycott campaign.

It undertook to study the contents of the various BDS campaigns provided by the civil society in order to support and disseminate these campaigns.
