Sudanese judoka withdraws from Olympics before facing Israeli opponent

Monday 26-July-2021

The Sudanese judoka Mohamed Abdalrasool announced on Monday his withdrawal from the Olympic judo competitions in Tokyo Olympics 2020 to avoid facing an Israeli competitor.

He was supposed to clash with Tohar Butbul in the third round in the 73kg division but he did not show up despite weighing in for the bout earlier.

On Thursday the Algerian champion Fathi Nourine announced his withdrawal from the Olympics before the start of the tournament.

“We worked very hard to reach the Olympics but the Palestinian cause is greater than these things and this is an irreversible decision” Nourine stressed.
