Tamimi lambastes IOA for banning maintenance of Aqsa Mosque

Monday 27-November-2006

Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi the chief justice of Islamic courts in Palestine on Monday lashed out at the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) for barring maintenance of the southern and eastern fences of the holy Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

Tamimi held the IOA responsible for the “serious repercussions” of its continued blocking of any maintenance to the Aqsa fence which threatens real dangers to those portions of the aging fence.

He emphasized that the Awkaf department in the holy city of Jerusalem is the only party responsible for maintaining the Aqsa Mosque and its buildings and fences warning that repeated IOA intervention the Aqsa’s affairs heralded increasing attempts to judaize the holy site and the entire holy city of Jerusalem.

He cited in this regard the systematic harassment of the city’s inhabitants forcing them to abandon their homes and property and surrounding the holy city with the separation wall that dismembered the occupied city and separated it from the West Bank other than preventing Muslims from heading to it.

The chief justice urged the international and regional organizations especially the UNESCO Arab League and OIC to shoulder their responsibilities and to pressure the occupation government into allowing the maintenance of the Aqsa compound. He warned that Muslims worldwide would not tolerate any harm done to the third holiest shrine in Islam.

Tamimi also urged the Palestinian masses to continue frequenting the holy site and to defend it in face of Israeli attempts to control it.
