Monday 12-February-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– Palestine’s chief Islamic judge Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi has urged the Palestinian people as well as Arab and Muslim Ummah to continue massive demonstrations against the Israeli demolition works at the Aqsa Mosque.

In a press statement he issued in this regard and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC he said “Arabs and Muslims across the world shouldn’t stay arms folded towards Israel’s desecration of their third holiest shrine”.

He also urged the international community to carry out its obligations towards the Palestinian people and to support their legal rights in their own country and to preserve the heritage of Jerusalem.

Last week the IOA started destroying parts of the Aqsa’s western wall near the Magharba gate thus sparking angry demonstrations in Palestine and across the Arab and Muslim world.

Israeli premier Ehud Olmert who ordered the destruction nixed a request tabled by his war minister Amir Peretz urging him to halt the demolition citing security concerns and urged speeding up the destruction.

On Sunday Israeli occupation police forcefully dispersed a peaceful rally organized by Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem and arrested head of the Aqsa foundation that caters for the holy shrines in Palestine Ali Abu Sheikha and a number of his colleagues.

“Once we arrived at the Magharba gate where the destruction works are carried out the Israeli chief of police present there gave us two minutes to leave the place” said Zahi Nujiadat the spokesman of the Islamic Movement in the 1948-occupied Palestinian lands.
