Tension edges higher as Israel police install new cameras in Jerusalem

Monday 12-February-2018

Israeli police on Sunday installed new security cameras on and around al-Shayah road in Jabal al-Zaytoun (Mount of Olives) area overseeing Jerusalem’s Old City.

The cameras have been set up by Israeli cops around al-Tour neighborhood east of Occupied Jerusalem in an attempt to tighten grip on Palestinian communities in the area.

Israeli authorities often claim that this security measures are taken to prevent Palestinian youths from carrying out riots and throwing stones in the area.

Such cameras scan every Palestinian entering or leaving Occupied Jerusalem track vehicles passing through the area and control every movement inside and out.

The measure comes at a time when tension has been edging higher in Occupied Jerusalem due to simmering manhunts and crackdowns by the Israeli forces against Palestinian anti-occupation youth.
