A state of high tension has been prevailing in the desert jail of Negev since Israeli special forces a few days ago assaulted hunger-striking prisoner Salem Zaidat.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) forces from the Israeli prison service (IPS) stormed the Negev prison’s sections brutalized prisoners and transferred them to other cells after they protested the assault on hunger striker Zaidat.
PPS said that Israeli prison forces carry out raids on cells and suppress prisoners on a daily basis holding the IPS fully responsible for any harm that may come to the Palestinian detainees especially hunger striker Salem Zaidat.
PPS affirmed that neither lawyers nor officials from rights groups were able to obtain information about prisoner Zaidat and his health following his exposure to assault.
Prisoner Zaidat started his hunger strike about one month ago in protest at his detention administratively with no indictment or trial.
