The issue of ex-prisoners stipends resolved

Monday 14-August-2017

Palestinian ex-prisoners whose stipends had been halted by the Palestinian Authority (PA) three months ago announced that an agreement was reached to resume paying their allowances.

Promises were also made to resolve the same issue of ex-prisoners in Gaza but at a later date.

In a press conference held Monday evening in Ramallah city and was attended by head of Palestinian Prisoner Society Qadoura Fares the ex-detainees demanded that the salaries’ file should be neutralized from political disputes or any internal or external pressures.

They also called for paying their allowances retroactively and asked that Issa Qaraqe Head of Detainees and Ex-detainees committee would follow up the matter.

The PA halted the monthly payments of 277 of prisoners and ex-detainees in response to Israeli and American pressures. The ex-detainees along with their families staged a sit-in in Ramallah and waged a hunger strike in protest at the decision.
