Thousands of Palestinians attended the funeral overnight Wednesday of the three youths who carried out the shooting incident in al-Aqsa Mosque two weeks ago.
Thousands of Umm al-Fahm residents gathered in front of the Jabarins’ family homes for a funeral procession after Israeli authorities returned the bodies around midnight.
The mourners chanted national and religious slogans in support of al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israeli police held onto the bodies of the martyrs for almost two weeks since the July 14 shooting. On Tuesday the Israeli High Court of Justice ordered that their bodies be returned to their families within 30 hours.
The three martyrs Muhammad Ahmed Muhammad Jabarin 29 Muhammad Hamad Abdel Latif Jabarin 19 and Muhammad Ahmed Mafdal Jabarin 19 were residents of Umm al-Fahm city.
They were killed by Israeli police in al-Aqsa compound on July 14 after carrying out stabbing and shooting attacks killing two Israeli police officers and injuring a third.
A state of tension had prevailed since the incident in the Arab city after Israeli police refused to release their bodies.
However the Israeli High Court of Justice ordered their release while stating that Israeli police could set conditions regarding how many people were allowed to attend the funerals and at what time they could be held.
Adalah rights organization had reported that the Israeli police command was ready to return the bodies under specific conditions including a 75000-shekel ($20996) fine to be paid by the families of the three suspects a complete media ban barring Knesset members and other public figures from attending and a restricted number of total attendees.
After convening for two consecutive days on the case Israeli police agreed to release the three relatives’ bodies after cancelling some of the imposed conditions.
