Thousands of Israeli settlers have been caught at the Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern occupied West Bank province of al-Khalil after they broke into the site overnight.
Director of the Ibrahimi Mosque Hefdhi Abu Esneineh said thousands of settlers have been spotted at the site from nightfall until daybreak on Sunday to mark the so-called Sarah Imeinu holiday.
The Muslim worshipers have meanwhile been banned from entering the site to perform their daily prayers.
During October the Israeli occupation authorities prohibited the Muslim call to prayers at the Ibrahimi Mosque for dozens of times and cracked down on the Muslim worshipers as they attempted to hold their religious prayers inside the holy site.
Such measures reportedly make part of Israeli attempts to judaize the Ibrahimi Mosque by intensifying Israelis’ presence and thus imposing a new fait accompli at the site as has been the case with Islamic and Christian holy places across the occupied Palestinian territories namely Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque.
