Turkey: Aqsa Mosque closure unacceptable measure

Tuesday 18-July-2017

Turkey has condemned Israel’s recent closure of the Aqsa Mosque before Muslim worshipers saying the measure was “very painful and unacceptable.”

Speaking to reporters following a cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday Turkish deputy premier Numan Kurtulmuş described Israel’s closure of the Aqsa Mosque as a crime against humanity and a violation of the Muslims’ right to worship.

He added that the Aqsa Mosque is one of the most holiest places to the Muslim nation and Israel’s recent closure of the Mosque was a reprehensible act.

Israel closed the Aqsa Mosque for Muslims’ prayers on Friday following a shootout that rendered three Palestinian young men and two Israeli policemen dead.

It started to lift its closure of the Islamic holy site gradually as of Sunday but imposed tight security measures and entry restrictions on Muslim worshipers.
