The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday denounced the Israeli authorities’ plan to establish thousands of new settlement units in Occupied Jerusalem.
This came in a statement issued by the Ministry in response to the Israeli-controlled Jerusalem municipality’s approval of the construction of 3000 settlement units on Palestinian lands southeast of Jerusalem.
The Turkish Ministry confirmed its rejection of such Israeli moves which ignore the international law and the US resolutions and said that Israel is turning its occupation into permanent colonization and undermining the peace talks by building more settlement units in the Palestinian territories.
Hebrew media sources on Thursday reported that the Jerusalem municipality on Wednesday green-lighted the construction of 3000 housing units in Gilo settlement south of Jerusalem.
The US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has encouraged more settlement projects in the occupied Palestinian territories in general and in Jerusalem in particular.
