Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mouloud Jawish Oglu has welcomed the Palestinian reconciliation agreement signed by Fatah and Hamas movements earlier on Thursday in Cairo.
“We welcome the understanding reached between our Palestinian brothers” said the minister in a phone call with head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Friday evening.
“Turkey will continue its support for all our Palestinian brothers to successfully advance the Palestinian national reconciliation process which we see essential for regional peace and security” he continued.
For his part Haneyya hailed the Turkish role in supporting the Palestinian people and cause over the past years.
A Palestinian reconciliation agreement was signed at the Egyptian intelligence headquarters after two days of intensive talks ending a decade-long split between Hamas and Fatah factions.
