Two ICRC officials released few hours after their kidnap

Wednesday 22-November-2006

Khan Younis– Iyad Nasr a spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said that the two Italian nationals working with the ICRC were freed after midnight Tuesday only few hours after their kidnap at the hands of armed elements in Khan Younis south of the Gaza Strip.

He said that the Red Cross decided to suspend its mission in the Strip for the time being in the wake of the incident.

Nasr last night announced that two ICRC employees were abducted at the hands of unknown gunmen.

PA security alerted all concerned apparatuses to mount a massive search for the Italians Gianmarco Onorato and Claudio Moroni.

Similar kidnap operations were witnessed in the Strip over the past few months that all ended in releasing those kidnapped without any harm done to any of them.
