Two Palestinian administrative detainees continue hunger strike

Monday 2-May-2022

Two Palestinian prisoners Khalil Awawdeh and Ra’ed Rayan have entered day 61 and day 26 respectively of the hunger strike they staged in protest at their detention administratively with no indictment or trial.

The Israeli administration of Ramla jail transferred Awawdeh a few days ago to a civilian hospital after a sharp decline in his health condition before taking him back later to the jail according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

Despite his worsening health the Israeli prison service refuses to end Awawdeh’s illegal detention and release him.

Awawedeh said in a letter he sent recently to his family through PPS that doctors at the Ramla jail infirmary threatened not to transfer him again to an Israeli civilian hospital unless he lost his consciousness during his hunger strike.

Awawdeh a father of four children is from Idhna town in al-Khalil. He was kidnaped by the Israeli occupation forces on December 27 2021.

As for prisoner Ra’ed Rayan he staged his hunger strike to protest an Israeli decision extending his administrative detention for an additional four months.

Rayan who is being held in Ofer jail was kidnaped from his home in Beit Duqqu village northwest of Occupied Jerusalem on December 3 2021 and soon later an Israeli military court ordered his detention administratively for six months.
