Two Palestinian hunger strikers in real danger

The Palestinian prisoners Khalil Awawda and Raed Rayan who have been on hunger strike for several weeks are in real danger the Commission of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs revealed Thursday.

Awawda is currently held in the so-called Ramle prison hospital in a very dangerous health condition the commission said.

It further pointed out that he suffers severe weight loss extreme fatigue frequent dizziness and vomiting and severe pains all over his body as he became unable to speak or move.

Awawda has resumed a few days ago his hunger strike which was suspended after 111 days after Israeli authorities extended his administrative detention for 4 months.

Awawda a father of four spent a total of 12 years in Israeli jails including four years in administrative detention.

Meanwhile Palestinian prisoner Raed Rayan continued his open-ended hunger strike for the 92nd day in protest against his illegal administrative detention.

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority reported that Rayan’s health condition entered a dangerous stage while Israeli authorities continue to refuse his transfer to a civilian hospital.

Administrative detention is detention without charge or trial. It is based on a secret file that neither the detainee nor his lawyer have access to.

According to the Israeli military orders an administrative detention order can be renewed for unlimited times for a maximum renewable period of six months.

4600 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli jails including 31 women 172 children and 682 administrative detainees.
