The Prisoners and Ex-prisoners Affairs Authority reported on Monday that the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) have administratively detained two minors Amal Nakhleh from Jalazoun refugee camp and Faisal Al-Arouj from Bethlehem. Both are 17 years old.
The two minors are being held in Megiddo detention center under the pretext of secret files without charge or trial.
The Authority stated in a report that Nakhla was arrested for the first time on 02/11/2020 for 40 days. He was arrested again on 21/01/2021 and the IOA ordered his administrative detention for six months.
Nakhla suffers from a difficult health condition and a rare disease called myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease that causes weakness in the skeletal muscles that worsens after periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. These muscles are responsible for functions involving breathing and moving parts of the body including the arms and legs. He is in urgent need of medical follow-up.
Regarding the other detainee Arouj the Authority said that he was arrested for the first time on 05/10/2019 and an administrative detention order was issued against him for 6 months and he was released on 04/04/2020.
The IOA re-arrested him on 25/04/2020 and ordered his administrative detention for 6 months which was renewed for a further 6 months on 24/10/2020.
The Authority added that this type of detention does not take into account the principles of a fair trial. The detainee and his lawyer are deprived of knowing the reasons for the arrest and in many cases the administrative detention order against the prisoner is renewed at the last moments of the expiry of the previous administrative detention order it added.
