The two Palestinian prisoners Majed Abu Shamla and Hassan Rabayaa from Jenin have continued their hunger strike for the 14th consecutive day.
Family sources told the PIC reporter that Abu Shamla was transferred to solitary confinement in Negev prison shortly after he declared his hunger strike.
The family said that their son declared an open hunger strike in protest against his illegal administrative detention.
The PA committee for prisoners’ studies for its part affirmed that the two prisoners continued their hunger strike despite their very difficult detention conditions in the Negev solitary confinement.
Abu Shamla declared his hunger strike after Israeli authorities renewed his administrative detention for the second time while the prisoner Rabayaa went on hunger strike after his administrative detention was twice renewed.
Scores of Palestinian prisoners have launched hunger strikes in recent months to denounce Israel’s widely-condemned policy of administrative detention which allows the detention of Palestinians for three to six months renewable intervals based on evidence undisclosed to the detainees and their lawyer.
Rights groups have repeatedly said that Israel’s administrative detention policy has been used as an attempt to disrupt Palestinian political and social processes notably targeting Palestinian academics activists and journalists.
