At least two Palestinians have been killed and scores of others injured amid mass protests over new Israeli security measures at al-Aqsa Mosque in different locations in Occupied Jerusalem.
The PIC reporter said that an Israeli settler killed an 18-year-old Palestinian youth in Ras al-Amud neighborhood in Occupied Jerusalem.
An Israeli settler was on a rooftop of a building in the city and opened his gunfire at worshipers in Ras al-Amud area. He targeted one of them in the neck and killed him instantly the PIC reporter elaborated.
The Palestinian Health Ministry announced that the slain teen was identified as Mohammad Sharaf 17 from Silwan town. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society affirmed that 124 injuries were treated in Occupied Jerusalem including 41 cases treated at field hospitals. Some 52 injuries were reported in Alezeriya area in Occupied Jerusalem the society pointed out.
A second youth called Mohammad Abu Ghannam 21 was also killed in al-Tour neighborhood in the city. Israeli police has stormed Alia Hospital in Jerusalem to arrest some of the wounded young men the PIC reporter said.
The protests come a week after a deadly shoot-out at Occupied Jerusalem which triggered tensions. The rallies started after Friday prayer in different locations in the occupied city.
Qalandiya barrier in the city witnessed violent clashes before and after Friday prayer. Over 3000 Palestinians performed Friday prayer near the Israeli checkpoint after being banned from accessing al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israeli police fired live ammunition tear gas and rubber-coated bullets at Palestinians protesting against the new measures and barred Muslim men under the age of 50 from entering the holy site. At least ten people were injured in Qalandiya clashes.
Violent clashes also erupted at al-Asbat gate in the Old City Bab al-Amud al-Majlis and Wadi al-Joze area. Israeli forces were intensively deployed in the occupied city of Jerusalem amid a state of tension and anger.
Eyewitnesses revealed that Israeli police arrested a number of Palestinian youths at different barriers at the entrances to Occupied Jerusalem as well as the Old City and the gates of al-Aqsa Mosque. Hundreds of Israeli soldiers were deployed in the Old City and on buildings’ rooftops.
Israeli forces forced the Awqaf employees and the guards of al-Aqsa Mosque to evict the vicinity of al-Majlis gate. They also banned about 40 youths from holding a sit-in near al-Asbat gate. Buses carrying worshipers from 1948 Occupied Palestine were also banned from entering the holy shrine.
