The UN human rights office in Palestine said it was shocked by the violent behavior of the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces in Ramallah City on Saturday June 26.
In a press release the UN office explained that its team was present in the streets of Ramallah and witnessed a brutal use of force against demonstrators and assaults on journalists and workers of human rights groups.
The office said it would raise its concerns in this regard in direct meetings with the competent authorities in Ramallah affirming that its team would continue to monitor the situation on the ground.
The UN called on the PA to protect freedoms of opinion expression and assembly and its government to control the use of force by security personnel stressing the need for investigating the use of excessive or unjustified force and holding everyone involved accountable including the officials who gave orders.
