UN urged to protect Palestinian refugees in Iraq

Thursday 12-April-2007

RAMALLAH (PIC)– A network of Palestinian private foundations has urged the UN and its concerned agencies to provide “temporary international protection” to thousands of Palestinian refugees in Iraq who are being murdered at the hands of armed Iraqi militias on daily basis.

In a press statement it issued on Wednesday the network highlighted that there are seven million Palestinian refugees forming the biggest bloc of refugees in the world and that they are denied the simplest human and political rights including the right to return to their homeland among other rights.

The network also explained that Palestinian refugees were exposed to several bloody massacres ever since they were displaced at gunpoint from their homeland back in 1948 at the hands of armed Zionist gangs that established the Hebrew state on those refugees’ lands.

Yet it added the recent massacres against the Palestinian refugees in Iraq at the hands of armed Iraqi militias widely believed to be sanctioned by the US occupation forces and Israel’s agents in Iraq have opened another black chapter in the refugees’ history.

The network held the American occupation forces fully responsible for the safety of Palestinian refugees in Iraq and called on the UN to accord “temporary international protection” to Palestinian refugees in their host countries till they return to their homeland.

UNSC resolution number 194 had called for the immediate return of those refugees to their homeland; yet the Israeli occupation government is still trampling on that resolution and denies the refugees that right.
